Please read these terms carefully before using Exchange Rate API.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using the Exchange Rate API service ("Service"), website at exchange-rateapi.com ("Website"), application programming interface ("API"), software development kits ("SDKs"), or any related services provided by Exchange Rate API ("we," "us," or "our"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms").

If you are using the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent and warrant that you have the authority to bind that organization to these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, you may not access or use the Service.

2. Account Registration

To access the Service, you must create an account and obtain an API key. When registering, you agree to:

  1. Provide accurate, current, and complete registration information.
  2. Maintain and promptly update your account information to keep it accurate and current.
  3. Maintain the security and confidentiality of your API key and account credentials.
  4. Accept responsibility for all activities that occur under your account.
  5. Notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account or API key.

You may not share, sell, transfer, or sublicense your API key to any third party without our prior written consent. Each API key is issued for use by a single account holder.

3. API Usage and Rate Limits

Your use of the API is subject to the rate limits and usage quotas associated with your subscription plan. Current plans and their respective limits are described on our Pricing page.

You agree to:

  1. Not exceed the rate limits associated with your plan.
  2. Implement appropriate error handling and retry logic with exponential backoff.
  3. Cache API responses where appropriate to minimize unnecessary requests.
  4. Include proper attribution when displaying exchange rate data publicly, as specified in our documentation.

If you exceed your plan's rate limit, the API will return an HTTP 429 (Too Many Requests) response. Persistent or excessive overuse may result in temporary or permanent suspension of your API access.

4. Prohibited Uses

You agree not to use the Service to:

  1. Violate any applicable law, regulation, or third-party rights.
  2. Redistribute, resell, or sublicense the raw API data to third parties as a standalone data product.
  3. Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Service or its underlying infrastructure.
  4. Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service, including through denial-of-service attacks, automated scraping beyond your plan limits, or exploitation of vulnerabilities.
  5. Use the Service to build a competing exchange rate API product that substantially replicates our core offering.
  6. Access the Service using automated means (bots, scripts, crawlers) for purposes other than making legitimate API calls with a valid API key.
  7. Circumvent, disable, or otherwise interfere with security-related features of the Service, including rate limiting and authentication mechanisms.
  8. Use exchange rate data from the Service for actual currency trading execution. Our data is provided for informational and conversion purposes only.

5. Subscription and Payment

Paid subscription plans are billed on a monthly recurring basis. By subscribing to a paid plan, you authorize us to charge your designated payment method at the beginning of each billing cycle.

Plan upgrades take effect immediately. Plan downgrades take effect at the start of the next billing cycle. We do not provide prorated refunds for partial billing periods, except as described below.

Refund Policy

We offer a 14-day money-back guarantee on all paid plans. If you are not satisfied with the Service within the first 14 days of your initial paid subscription, contact us at admin@exchange-rateapi.com and we will process a full refund.

6. Intellectual Property

The Service, including its API design, documentation, website, SDKs, branding, and all related materials, is owned by Exchange Rate API and is protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you any right, title, or interest in the Service except for the limited right to use it in accordance with these Terms.

You retain ownership of any applications, products, or services you build using data obtained through the API. However, the underlying exchange rate data, API endpoints, and documentation remain our intellectual property.

7. Data Accuracy and Disclaimer

We strive to provide accurate and timely exchange rate data sourced from reputable financial data providers. However, exchange rate data is inherently variable and subject to market conditions.

THE EXCHANGE RATE DATA PROVIDED THROUGH THE SERVICE IS FOR INFORMATIONAL AND CONVERSION PURPOSES ONLY. IT SHOULD NOT BE USED AS THE SOLE BASIS FOR FINANCIAL TRADING DECISIONS. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any data provided through the Service.

8. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components. We do not warrant that the results obtained from the use of the Service will be accurate or reliable.

9. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL EXCHANGE RATE API, ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, OR AGENTS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, RESULTING FROM:

  1. Your use of or inability to use the Service;
  2. Any unauthorized access to or alteration of your data or transmissions;
  3. Any inaccuracy in exchange rate data provided through the Service;
  4. Any interruption or cessation of the Service;
  5. Any bugs, viruses, or other harmful code that may be transmitted through the Service;
  6. Any errors or omissions in any content or data.

Our total aggregate liability for all claims arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim, or (b) fifty US dollars ($50).

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Exchange Rate API and its affiliates, officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any and all claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or in any way connected with your access to or use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your infringement of any third-party rights.

11. Termination

You may terminate your account at any time by contacting us at admin@exchange-rateapi.com or through your account dashboard.

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without cause, and with or without notice. Grounds for termination include, but are not limited to:

  1. Violation of these Terms.
  2. Conduct that we determine is harmful to other users, us, or third parties.
  3. Extended periods of inactivity.
  4. Requests by law enforcement or government agencies.

Upon termination, your right to use the Service will immediately cease. We may delete your account data in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

12. Modifications to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by posting the updated Terms on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the Service after any such changes constitutes your acceptance of the new Terms.

We encourage you to review these Terms periodically for any changes.

13. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall first be attempted to be resolved through good-faith negotiation. If the dispute cannot be resolved through negotiation within thirty (30) days, either party may pursue resolution through binding arbitration administered in accordance with applicable commercial arbitration rules.

14. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid by a court of competent jurisdiction, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary so that the remaining provisions of these Terms will remain in full force and effect.

15. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Exchange Rate API regarding the use of the Service and supersede all prior or contemporaneous communications, whether electronic, oral, or written.
